The International Day for Biological Diversity, 2017 was celebrated by Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board, Itanagar at Roing, Lower Dibang Valley District on 22nd May, 2017 with theme “Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism”. The details of the celebration are as follows;

Painting Competition

A painting competition on the eve of International Day for Biological Diversity was held at Roing on 21st May, 2017. In the celebration students from various schools of Lower Dibang Valley took part. The painting competition was categorized in following groups;

Prizes to the Winner, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner in each category were given away on 22nd May, 2017 by the Chief Guest of the IDB-2017 Celebration.

Inaugural Programme

The inaugural programme of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2017 was held at Anchal Samity Hall, Roing, Lower Dibang Valley District. Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley district Shri Deepak Shinde, IAS attended the programme as Chief Guest. While speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner, requested Panchayati Raj Institute to play pivotal role in constituting more Biodiversity Management Committees in the district. He narrated the importance of documenting the Bioresources of the State and encouraged documentation of the same through preparation of Peoples Biodiversity Registers.

Sri N. Tam, IFS, Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board in his key note address emphasized the need on conserving every single species. His lecture covers the issues to mitigate the sustainable utility of the Bioresource. He requested the local people to be a responsible citizen in maintaining the Biodiversity that will also help in promoting Ecotourism.

Mr. Rajen Mickrow, Chairman, BMC Arango in his welcome address narrated the activities being undertaken by the BMCs of the district and requested every individual and government departments in the district to coordination with BMCs.

Earlier the Chief Guest released the Peoples Biodiversity Registers of Koronu, Hunli and Kebali villages prepared by the Biodiversity Management Committees. The prizes of the Painting Competition among the School Children held on the eve of the Celebration were also given away to the winners. More than 300 participants from 14 villages, HoDs of various departments in the districts, Forest officials, Biodiversity Activist, School Children and NGO representatives attended the programme. The programme was moderated by Ms. Bulia Pulu, Advocate, District Court Roing and Member, BMC, Koronu.

Technical Session

As a part of Celebration an awareness lecture series on the theme Biodiversity and Sustaining Tourism was held after the inaugural programme. The session covers following lectures;

            –    Community approach on Biodiversity Conservation; (a documentary show)
