The International Day for Biological Diversity, 2012 was celebrated by Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board with the following programmes with the financial support from National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai.
1. Headquarter programme: The headquarter programme of the International Day for Biological Diversity, 2012 wascelebrated by the Board at Batt village located at 15 km from Itanagar. The programme was graced by Shri B.S. Sajwan, PCCF and Principal Secretary (E & F), Department of Environment and Forest, Government of Arunachal Pradesh as Chief Guest. Villagers along with the village heads of three village Batt, Jote and Poma village participated in the programme. In the programme Biodiversity Management Committees of the three participating villages were formed.
The Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board (APBB), Shri P. Subramanyam in his welcome address highlighted the role of State Biodiversity Board and Biodiversity Management Committee. He requested the villagers to be very cooperative in implementing the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. Shri B.S. Sajwan, PCCF and Principal Secretary (E & F), Department of Environment and Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh narrated the salient features of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. He suggested the Board to conduct knowledge exchange programmes of BMC members with the active BMC members of other State. The Chairman of three newly formed BMC’s also spelled on their past experiences in Biodiversity Conservation activities. They assure for their pro active role in Biodiversity Conservation. Chief Guest also distributed artificial Hornbill beak to the village representatives.
The programme was also attended by all the senior forest officials of the State Government and the Scientist of State Forest Research Institute, Itanagar. To mark the celebration, plantation of Fruit trees in the School campus of Government Primary School, Batt was conducted.
2. Celebration by BMC’s: The International Day for Biological Diversity, 2012 was celebrated by the Biodiversity Management Committee, Hong (Nitii). The BMC, Hong (Nitii) organised a talk programme on Biodiversity at Tani Lapang, Hong, which was attended by Forest officials, Gram Panchayat Members and villagers of Hong Village. The BMC Members narrated the activities to be carried out in their jurisdiction with the support of Government agencies.
3. Radio talk: Radio talk on Biodiversity of Arunachal Pradesh was broadcasted from Radio Ooo lala FM 91.9, Itanagar on 22nd May, 2012 as a part of IBD, 2012 celebration. The panel of the expert in the programme was Dr. Yogesh, Addl. PCCF, Department of Environment and Forests, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. A.N. Rao, Orchadelogist, SFRI, Itanagar and Dr. G. Murtem, Forest Geneticist, SFRI, Itanagar cum Nodal Officer, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board.
4. Panel discussion on Doordarshan
(i) Panel discussion on Creativity in Biodiversity Conservation at Doordarshan Kendra Itanagar on 15th May, 2012. The panel of expert in the programme was Shri P. Subramanyam, Director, SFRI cum Member Secretary, APBB, Dr. G. Murtem, Forest Geneticist, SFRI, Itanagar cum Nodal Officer, APBB and Shri Nabam Epo, President, All Arunachal Pradesh Head Gao Bura Association. The programme was telecasted live from DD-North East.
(ii) Panel discussion on Biodiversity Conservation activity in Arunachal Pradesh and role of State Biodiversity Board was held at Doordarshan Kendra Itanagar on 22nd May, 2012. The panel of expert in the discussion were Shri B.S. Sajwan, PCCF and Principal Secretary (E & F), Department of Environment and Forest, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri P. Subramanyam, Director, SFRI cum Member Secretary, APBB, Dr. Kenjum Bagra, Research Officer, APBB. The programme was telecasted live from DD-North East.
5. Multimedia campaign through local FM station: Slogan on Biodiversity Conservation was broadcasted through local FM Radio station from 22nd May to 12th June, 2012 in English, Hindi and different local languages (available for download in Publication section).
